As a public organisation, the Institute is accountable to the public and is managed by a management board selected from Institute members and is responsible for policy formulation. Currently the management board is comprised of a Chairperson who is a Civil Engineer by profession, and six board members selected from various Water and Sanitation Sector constituencies. Membership to the Institute is open to all interested professionals and meetings are held annually to pass the annual reports and audited statements as well as selecting new board members.
