Manual Development Support

Manual Development Support

Client: Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF)

Duration: 2021-2022

Location: Harare

MSF engaged Institute of Water and Sanitation Development to build the capacity of their health promoters to develop toolkits for program improvement for their Environmental Health and Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health programs being implemented in Harare. The assignment is running from August 2021 to April 2022. The projects being implemented require a lot of training sessions for the beneficiaries in the communities hence the need to develop training manuals that suit the intended audience, continue to be referral point and assist in ensuring that all the trainings are standardized. Activities that were implemented during the period under review include the following:

• Concept designing- IWSD conducted a two day workshop with MSF health promotion staff to unpack the assignment and to explain the objectives to the participants. The facilitators also provided a road map to guide the participants on how manuals are developed and from this action plans were drawn.
• Program manual development-After the inception workshops, the MSF participants were set to develop the manuals as follows:

1. Sexual abuse at water points, working tool kit to address the problem.
2. Working in schools, unstandardized messages being given to learners when it comes to sexual reproduction (ASRH).
3. Solid waste management.
4. Organic waste management and recycling wastewater in an area without reticulation.

The development process involved participants developing content for their manuals as per set guideline from IWSD.
Facilitation for this process was done through sharing of documents via emails and presentation of final drafts to facilitators and fellow colleagues.
Development of implementation tools- IWSD shared the sequence of steps in developing a tool kit and also assisted the participants to identify appropriate implementation tools for the manuals being developed.
